Abstract :
Purpose :
Digitalization and digital transformation have been an accelerating phenomenon in every
industry, including in the banking industry. More institutions have been deciding to adopt
a digitalization strategy. The present study aims to understand the factors that influence the
decision for the adoption of digitalization, specifically within the Bahraini banking
industry.
Design/Methodology/Approach:
A qualitative study was implemented for this research through semi-structured interview
questions with individuals in relevant banking institutions. Data were analyzed using a
mixture of the deductive and ground theory approach to help simplify ease of formulating
theories and findings that aim to answer the research question and objectives.
Findings:
Results have proven that the proposed factors were not all highly influential to the decision
for adoption of digitalization strategies when they were tested in the Bahraini banking
sector. The qualitative data gathered for this study found that there is a high level of
influence from innovation activity, data security, competitive intensity, and customer
acceptance of technology with the decision to adopt digitalization strategies.
Conclusion:
When it comes to decision-making, banks in Bahrain are highly influenced by competition
and customer experience, also influenced by innovation activity and data security. While
having little to no influence from technology turbulence and artificial intelligence. This
contributes to enhancing the understanding of the factors that influence the decision of
banks in the Bahraini banking sector for adopting a digitalization strategy.
Originality/Value:
This research paper was conducted fully with my original work and research efforts.
