Abstract :
The present study aimed to find out significant correlations in the total degree and dimensional sub- concepts of the meaning of life and psychological hardiness among a sample of orphans and a group of ordinary high school students, as well as finding significant differences in the meaning in life and psychological hardiness among a sample of different sex. The sample consisted of 120 adolescents aged (16-18 years) of orphans who sponsored by the Royal Charity Organization in the Kingdom of Bahrain (60 males / 60 females). The sample was selected randomly and the sample size represented 10% of the total population (1174) orphans. The researcher also selected a sample of 120 ordinary secondary school students (6) males / 60 females). The researcher used the measurements psychological hardiness and the meaning in life.
It was concluded that there is a proportional correlation which is considered to be statistically significant between the meaning in life and psychological hardiness for orphans, as well as the ordinary students (significant level of 0.01).
The study also found a proportional correlation which was statistically significant between the overall degree and dimensional sub- degrees of all grades for the sample of the orphans at 0.01, and also found a proportional correlation which was statistically significant between the overall degree and the dimensional sub-degrees for a sample of ordinary people with a significance level of 0.01.
There was also showed statistically significant differences in the meaning in life at level 0.05 among a sample of male orphans and ordinary students (to the advantage of orphans). While there were statistically no significant differences in the meaning in life among females sample of orphans and the ordinary students.
The study showed statistically significant differences in the psychological hardiness with significance level at 0.01 among a sample of male orphans and ordinary students (to the advantage of orphans). There were no statistical significant differences in the psychological hardiness between the sample of female orphans who lost their fathers and ordinary students.
