Abstract:
The current study aimed to verify the effectiveness of a counseling program to reduce the degree of anxiety and depression among parents of an autistic child among a sample in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The researcher used the one-group quasi-experimental method. The study sample included (20) parents who underwent a counseling program. The program included (9) counseling sessions and was implemented over a period of four weeks. The researcher used two scales: the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale (TAS) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). After completing the application of the counseling program, the researcher used statistical processing through Wilcoxon to identify the differences between the two tests, the pre-measurement. And the dimension of both anxiety and depression. The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences in the sample after applying the two tests. This indicates the effectiveness of the counseling program in reducing the degree of anxiety and depression among parents of an autistic child among a sample in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The researcher recommends conducting guidance programs in the future to reduce anxiety, depression, and psychological stress targeting parents of children with special needs, and awareness programs for all segments of society.
