Abstract :
The study aimed to identifying the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and its relation to family's support among Gastric Bypass Surgery (GSB) sample in Kingdom of Bahrain. In addition, to explore the significant differences according to gender and age variables on (PTSD) and family's support. The researcher used the descriptive comparative design. The study sample consisted of (60) patients who underwent "Gastric Bypass Surgery'. The researcher used two tools: the 'Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Scale', prepared by Attia (2015), and the scale of Social Support prepared by Chenawi and Al Sayed (1994). The results showed that the highest levels of "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder" in the sample were: "feeling tension after the Gastric Bypass Surgery", and "the feeling of gastric stenosis disturbed when they heard high voices". Moreover, the results showed that (73.3%) of the sample expressed low levels of post-traumatic effects, however, (26.7%) of the sample showed moderate levels of PTSD. The results revealed a statistically significant negative correlation between the post-traumatic effects of "Gastric Bypass Surgery and family support (r=-0.462, p≤ α-0.01). There were statistically significant differences on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder due to the age-group variable accounted for (31-40 years) age-group.
