Abstract:
Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to study the effect of virtual employment on productivity in Bahrain. This thesis intends to assess the effect of several factors of virtual employment on productivity, and these factors are structural factors, relational factors, individual factors, and technological factors. By studying the influence of these factors on productivity, this study will ultimately identify which of these factors is the most influential and which is the least influential. Furthermore, this research aims to identify the challenges of virtual employment in achieving high productivity in Bahrain and seeks to give suggestions to organizations on virtual employment to enhance employee productivity.
Design/ Methodology/ Approach: Qualitative approach was used to acquire extensive knowledge of previous literature and to identify what previous literature suggests in relation to the problem questions of this research. The qualitative approach assisted the researcher in acquiring the conceptual framework for this research of which few adjustments were made to it by the researcher to better suit the intended analysis of this thesis. In contrast, the quantitative approach is the approach utilized throughout the analytical section of this study, via the utilization of a structured close-ended questions interviews was used to acquire answers to the research questions in relation to Bahrain. For this study, the deductive method was used, and it was selected to assist the researcher reason from generic to unique. Furthermore, it is important to note that the interview questions are acquired from a previous research paper with minor adjustments to acquire comprehensive primary data. Therefore, the questions of the interview were inputted into an online data input system and coded, the answers are designed based on a Likert-Scale (rating scale of 7 points) throughout the questions. The sample size consisted of 88 participants who were either Bahraini citizens or residents, all of whom at the time of conducting this research are working in Bahrain. All the participants belong to different sectors of the economy, various organization sizes, and different occupational levels. Also, for the selection of respondents, a snowball sampling technique was used. Finally, the machine learning pipeline is used to analyze the data via the utilization of the Random Forest Classifier.
Findings: Findings suggest that all factors of virtual employment have an influence on productivity in Bahrain and the most influential factor is the individual factor, whereas the least influential factor is surprisingly the technological factor.
