English Abstract
Abstract :
The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between
psychological hardiness, emotional intelligence, and some demographic
variables among a sample of special education teachers in the city of
Riyadh. To achieve the objectives of the study, the investigator used the
descriptive method (correlational and comparative).
The study tools were implemented during the second semester of the
year 2011/2012 and consisted of the Psychological Hardiness
Questionnaire (Mukhaimar, 2011) and the Emotional Intelligence Scale
(Osman & Abd El-sameea, 2002).
The study sample was randomly selected and consisted of (168)
special education teachers in the city of Riyadh ( 91 males and 77
females).
The results of the study were as follows:
1- Using t-test, results showed that there were statistically significant
differences between males and females on Commitment and on the
total score of Psychological Hardiness, in favor of females. On the other
hand, there were no statistically significant gender differences on the
dimensions of (Control and Challenge) of the Psychological Hardiness
Scale. Furthermore, Using t-test and One Way ANOVA, results showed
that there were no statistically significant differences among teachers in
the study sample on all dimensions of the Psychological Hardiness
Scale according to Social Status, Age, or Years of Experience.
2- Using Pearson correlations, results showed that there was a
statistically significant positive correlation between Commitment and the
following dimensions of Emotional Intelligence: Emotional Management,
Sympathy, Organizing Emotions, and Social Communication. On the
other hand, there was no significant coorelation between Commitment
and Emotional Knowledge dimension of Emotional Intelligence. Results
also showed that there was a statistically Significant positive correlation
between the Control and Challenge dimensions of the Psychological
Hardiness Scale and the total score of Emotional Intelligence on the one
hand, and all of its five dimensions on the other hand, namely:
(Emotional Management, Sympathy, organizing Emotions Emotional
Knowledge, Social Communication).
3- Using Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis, results showed that the
independent variables that were predictors of Psychological Hardiness
were: Organizing Emotions ( in the first step) and both of Organizing
Emotions and Gender ( in the second step).
