Abstract:
This study investigates the effectiveness and productivity of working from
home during the COVID-19 pandemic based on seven characteristics from
the telecommunications sector in Bahrain, including social, job,
teleworker, management, teleworking, crisis and demographic variables.
Data from a sample of 104 employers working from home are collected
using a questionnaire. A partial least squares regression that ensures the
absence of multicollinearity and nonnormality is used as a unique
technique to develop two models. The results of these models suggest that
the telework effectiveness, teleworker, teleworking and crisis
characteristics are statistically significant, whereas the social, job and
management characteristics as well as the demographic variables are not
statistically significant. These results support the importance of teleworker
skills and professional quality variations, such as autonomy, self-
discipline, self-motivation, management skills, likely to work during the
most prolific period and facilitate working in case of sickness and crisis.
Decision makers and managers benefit the most from this study and its
results.
