Abstract:
This study focused on the use of communication technology in the learning process and its role in the academic achievement of high school students, with the application to the schools of technical and vocational education in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The main objective of the study is to demonstrate the impact of the use of communication technology in the development of academic practice and the improvement of learning outcomes among students. To achieve its objectives, the study relied on the survey method to collect data from secondary school students of the technical and vocational education system.
The results showed that information and communication technology played an important role in facilitating learning and assimilation of course content. Due to the superiority of technical and vocational education schools in terms of the availability of these technologies, the study showed the communication and learning dimensions of these methods and their impact on student achievement.
It was also found that the most educational means to which students are exposed during the school day are: projectors, computers and internet, smartboards and interactive whiteboards. The most common social networking platforms used by students for learning are: Whatsapp, YouTube and e-mail.
As for the learning skills acquired through the use of modern communication technology in learning, they are mainly concerned with developing research capacity, increasing interactive activity within the classroom, supporting collaborative learning, diversifying sources of knowledge and forms of learning, and finally bringing knowledge closer together.
The results of the study also indicate that there is a correlation between the use of communication technology and the achievement of learning strategies. The higher the students' exposure to communicative means during the day, the greater the level of achievement of learning strategies. The more students use social media for learning, the greater the level of learning strategies.
