ABSTRACT:
The Purpose of this study was to investigate the importance of student e- portfolio and the main difficulties that teachers encounter during its use in classroom assessment.
The researcher used a 54-item, likert-type questionnaire, which was applied on a sample of 61 computer teachers in al-khobar city.
The main findings of the study are as follows:
1. There has been a considerable importance of using the e-portfolio in classroom assessment of students as well as the degree of its use in classroom assessment.
2. Computer teachers face high degree of difficulties in using the e-portfolio in classroom assessment.
3. No significant differences were found among teachers' use of the e-portfolio with regard to educational stage, and the number of workshops, although there was a significant difference with respect to teaching experience (6-10 years).
4. There have been significant differences among teachers in the use of the e- portfolio due to educational stage and teaching experience but not with respect to number workshops attended by teachers.
5. No significant differences were found among teachers in the difficulties of using the e-portfolio according to number of years of teaching, but due to the number of workshops only.
In the light of the findings of the study the researcher provides the following recommendations s:
1. Training teachers and students in using the e-Portfolio, in classroom assessment of students at various educational levels and different subjects.
2. Providing laboratories for computers equipped with the latest technology to train teachers and students on the skills of e-Portfolio preparation.
3. Benefiting from the best international experiences in the field of using e- Portfolio.
4. Providing training to students and teachers by the Ministry of Education and education departments areas, as well as developing the system of teacher preparation in terms of the objectives, activities and means and methods of teaching and assessment tools commensurate with the use of e- Portfolio.
