Abstract :
This study examined the extent of employing modern technology and information systems in some activities of our managerial function namely "Material Management" by using computer. The study surveyed opinions of fifty specialists and practitioners in material management in main private and public enterprises as well as governmental ministries.
The study focuses on six variabes represent material management activities in which computer is utilized. These variables are: purchasing, needs assessement, storage, storage control, administrative procedures, and financial procedures. The importance, obstcales, and determinants of using computer were also explored.
Field data were obtained through a questionnaire developed by the author and designed to suit the purpose of this study and to answer research questions and hypothesis. Both descriptive and analytical statistics were employed to present and analyzed gathered data.
Research results revealed that computer usages in material management activities still in early stage. However, private sector enterprises are more leaner to utilize computer applications than both public enterprises and governmental ministries. Moreover, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test have supported study's hypothesis stated that there are differences among sample's members in utilization of computer in the six variables. However, results indicates that such differences vary from variables to another.
