Since the beginning of this century, health personnel have worked diligently to define the epidemiology of salmonellosis and the ecology of Salmonella and to develop new techniques to isolate this organism. Others have worked harder to define the major sources and mode of transmission of Salmonella to humans and to livestock.
University professors, researchers, and other health and food-regulation staff have collaborated in conducting studies and seminars on Salmonellag. Many of these specialists have suggested different control measures to protect humans and animals from disease caused by Salmonella. However, all these efforts have failed to solve, or even significantly decrease, the incidence of salmonellosis.
Salmonellosis is a significant problem in the developed and the developing world in terms of losses both for individuals and the affected countries at large. This report discusses the existing traditional food inspection and proposed hazard analysis critical control point approach and suggests a solution for controlling Salmonella.
