Human Resource Management Practices and Technological Innovation: An Empirical Investigation in the Banking Sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain

Abstract : Purpose: This research aimed to study the relationship between human resource practices and technological innovation in the Bahraini banking sector. The research intends to examine the relationship between HRMPs (staffing, compensation, performance appraisal, training, and participation in decision-making) and technological innovation. Design/Methodology/Approach: This research design is descriptive and correlational. A quantitative research approach was chosen for the data collection to meet the research objectives. An online structured questionnaire has been used to collect the primary data, and it is designed mainly depending on the Likert Scale (rating scale of 5 points). The target population of the research is the Banking sector employees in Bahrain, which equals 6989. According to the population size, the sample size has been selected as 364 from the employees from all levels in the Banking Sector. A simple random sampling method was used to determine the survey's respondents. The response rate of the research survey is 60.4%, equal to 220 responses. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the data results. Findings: The study results show that all the independent variables (staffing, compensation, performance appraisal, training, and participation in decision-making) have a positive relationship with technological innovation and almost the same weight. The study concludes that Human Resource Management (HRMPs) positively correlate with technological innovation in the Banking Sector in Bahrain. Originality/value: To date, this is the first work concern about HRMPs and technological innovation in Bahrain and GCC with empirical evidence from the Banking Sector in Bahrain.
