ABSTRACT: This research study looks into the impact of the internet on primary schools within Bahrain. The research was a hybrid mix of qualitative and quantitative features as it included questionnaires sent via email and a couple of further interviews with the respondents. The study is significant as the internet is such a huge part of the lives of people today; its influence goes far beyond the classroom. Therefore addressing the extent of its impact in the learning of our children is of great importance. Research contained here is an analysis of the perceptions of the respondents; it involved no observation within the classroom. All findings were backed up and compared to the literature. Key findings included the fact that science teachers were using the internet in lessons twice as much as non-science colleagues, however this could be because of significantly better ICT provision within the science department. It was also found that male staff used the internet almost twice as much as female staff for personal use and the most regular users were the 20-40 age group. Finally it was found that the greatest obstacle staff perceived to internet use was connectivity and accessibility. Although perhaps originally there were concerns the computer was being used for drill purposes only, this is not reflected in the use of the internet within lessons.
