Abstract :
This study aimed at identifying the degree of agreement between the opinions of the specialist evaluator and the opinions of social studies teachers for second cycle of primary education (4th, 5th, & 6th) grades and to find out the cultural aspects in the social studies book of the for second cycle of primary education. Such a thing is done by answering the following questions :-
1- Are there any significant statistical differences between the opinions of specialisit evaluator and social studies teachers in the degree of importance of the cultural aspects in the social studies books of for second cycle of primary education in Bahrain Kingdom?
2- To which extend the social subjects books for second cycle of primary education in Bahrain Kingdom give remedy to this aspects?
3- What the degree of correlation among topics in social studies
books according to specialist evaluator opinion?
The sample of the study consisted of:
1-(6) Social studies books including the workbooks with a
total of 581 pages.
2-(20) Social studies teachers for upper primary cycled in the
academic year 2001/2002.
3- (12) Specialist evaluator.
The researcher also prepared a content analysis card.
The study has shown the following results ;-
1- There were no significant statistical differences between specialist evaluators opinions and teachers opinions in the degree of importance of the cultural aspects in social studies books of for second cycle of primary education.
2- The degree of the cultural aspects in the books differ, the highest point (25.3%) & the lowest (0%), the frequency of the cultural aspects in the books was random and not regular.
3- The degree of agreement between the ideal content of social studies books, as recommended by juries, and the real content is weak.
The results of this study has proved that there is a cultural gap in the content of social studies books of for second cycle of primary education for the academic year 2001/2002.
Therefor, the study, presents some suggestion important for all is the cultural aspects that the specialist evaluator and the teachers agree to have them in the book, and suggestion for reconsidering the book content. It's also important that teachers should be involved in selecting the cultural content of the book.
It also suggested conducting some studies related to the subject matter.
